Using the My Files Storage Area

If you've been granted access to the My Files storage area, you'll see two tabs on your Files page navigation pane:

  • Shared. The Shared area is where you can exchange files with the firm that provides the portal.
  • My Files. My Files is an optional storage area that firms sometimes provide. This area is only accessible to client users of the portal. Client users can upload files to this secure location for review and discussion before submitting them to the firm.

    Note: In the Microsoft® Silverlight® version of Portal, My Files was known as the Client Area.

You can use the same procedures to upload, check out, and delete files in My Files that you use in the Shared area.

After completing your internal review, you can move or copy files from to the Shared area by doing the following:

  1. On the Files page, click the My Files tab.
  2. Locate the file you want to share.
  3. Do one of the following, depending on the type of device you are using:
    • Desktop computer. Select the check box for the file to be shared. Then, click and select Share file.
    •  Tablet or phone. Tap next to the file, and then select Share file.
  4. Click or tap the Shared area folder where the files should be moved or copied.
  5. Click or tap one of the following:
    • Move. The file is added to the Shared storage area and removed from the My Files storage area.
    • Copy. The file is added to the Shared storage area. It also remains in the My Files storage area.
