Editing Historical Client IDs and Names

You can change the IDs, sub-IDs, and sort names of historical clients. Your firm may consider this option to allow more flexibility working with active client IDs and names. For example, if your firm no longer wishes to use sub-IDs, you must first remove sub-IDs from all historical clients. Editing historical client IDs and names also offers more control of how historical clients are listed in relation to active clients when grouped, sorted, and subtotaled in reports.

To edit historical client IDs and names, do the following:

  1. Open Client Manager.
  2. Expand Views on the navigation panel.
  3. Select Historical Clients.
  4. Select a client in the grid and click Open on the Home ribbon.
  5. Do one or both of the following:
    • Change the ID and, if applicable, sub-ID.
    • Notes:

      • The ID or, if applicable, ID and sub-ID combination must not be used by any historical client or by clients with any status, such as Active.
      • The sub-ID field displays only when the option to identify clients by both the main ID and the sub-ID is selected in Firm > Settings and defaults.
    • Change the sort name.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Note: You must have the Client ID functional right (Edit) in any organizational unit to save your changes.
