Managing the Firm's Custom Address and Phone Types

You can enter custom address and phone number types, including email and instant messenger addresses. The types your firm specifies are available when entering addresses and phone numbers on various firm, client, and staff configuration windows.

  • Addresses. At least one type is required and cannot be deleted (even if the Address type has no address associated with it).
  • Phone numbers. At least four types are required and cannot be deleted (even if the Phone number types have no phone numbers associated with them).
  • Email addresses. At least one type is required and cannot be deleted (even if the Email Address type has no email addresses associated with it).
  • Instant messenger addresses. At least one type is required and cannot be deleted (even if the IM Address type has no address associated with it).

To manage custom address and phone types, do the following:

  1. Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, and then click Settings and defaults under Firm.
  2. Click Custom Addresses and Phones on the navigation panel.
  3. Do any of the following:
  4. ClosedAdd a type.

    1. Click the first line in the grid.
    2. Enter the type to add to the list.

    ClosedModify an existing type.

    1. Select a record in the grid that contains the existing type you want to modify.
    2. To modify the type, do either of the following:
      • Right-click the grid and select Edit from the menu.
      • Double-click the type.

    ClosedDelete a type.

    1. Select a record in the grid that contains the existing type to remove.
    2. Right-click and select Delete.
  5. Click OK.

Notes:

  • If you are adding or editing a type, the type must be unique.
  • You cannot delete a type associated with active data. To delete an assigned type, you must first remove all references to the type in the firm, staff, or client profiles.
