Managing Your Firm Tax Options

To configure your firm's default settings for Tax, do the following:

  1. Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, and then click Settings and defaults under Firm.
  2. Click Tax > Options on the navigation panel.
  3. In the Client profile section, select tax transfer Closedoptions.
  4. Under Batch Manager job history, select the number of days jobs should be retained in Batch Manager. By default, Batch Manager jobs are retained for seven days before they are deleted.
  5. Notes:

    • Electronic Filing > Extension jobs are retained for 60 days, regardless of the firm setting.
    • Large print jobs are retained for 30 days, regardless of the firm setting.
    • If the default number of days is changed for your firm, jobs that exceed the new limit will be removed from Batch Manager within 24 hours.
  6. Select Do not allow suppression of nonfileable message on signature forms to include the "THIS IS NOT A FILEABLE COPY" statement on signature Forms 8453, 8878, 8879, and 8879-SO. This reduces the risk of sending forms that should not be signed or filed.
  7. Note: This firm option overrides the Do not print nonfileable message on signature forms option in the following:

    • Return configuration set. For all tax years, in Return configuration sets > Electronic Filing Options > General.
      • To restore the return configuration set value, clear this firm setting.
    • Tax return. For 2018 and higher tax years, in Electronic Filing options.
  8. Select Do not allow Ask the Community within Tax Preparation.

Note: This will remove all users' ability to select the Ask the Community option in Tax preparation and is unchecked by default.

  9. Click OK to save your changes.
