Configuring Return Configuration Set Entire Return Print Options

The Entire Return tab of the return configuration set Print Options window allows you to select the default print settings to use when printing an entire return, such as the return copy types (Accountant, Government, Client, K-1 package) and the number of copies of each.

To set up options for printing an entire return, do the following:

  1. Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, and then click Configuration > Return configuration sets under Tax.
  2. Double-click a return configuration set on the navigation panel.
  3. Click Print Options on the navigation panel.
  4. Click the Entire Return tab.
  5. Configure the options for each copy type.

    Accountant, Government, Client, K-1 Package column Select each copy type to print.
    No. of copies Enter the number of copies to print for each copy type selected. You can print from one to nine copies if you are printing to a printer. Only one copy can be sent to a document imager, PDF, or TIFF file.
    Print to Select the print format or destination from the list.
    Watermark Select a watermark to print in the document background from the list or select No watermark.
    Mask

    For tax years 2011 and later, Select to convert bank account, SSN, and EIN numbers to asterisks in Accountant, Client, and K-1 copy types.

    Notes:

    • For tax years 2012 and higher, Only the fields that are selected to mask on the Print Options return configuration set window will be converted to asterisks. If needed, verify the fields you want to mask are selected.
    • You can select to display the last four digits of bank account, SSN, and EIN numbers for tax years 2012 and later on the Print Options return configuration set window.
    Path or Browse Enter the path or browse to a location to save PDF and TIFF files.
    Default single file location Enter the path or browse to a location to save all selected copy types. If you have selected more than one copy type to print to a PDF or TIFF file, and the Create separate PDF / TIFF files option is cleared, you can enter the path information or click Browse to find the location.

    Create separate PDF/TIFF files Select the box to create separate PDF or TIFF files when the number of copies selected is greater than one.
    Create bookmark PDFs

    Organizes PDF content in Federal, State, and Cities bookmarks on the Adobe® Bookmarks pane. If you do not select to create separate PDF files, these bookmarks are located under each copy type.

    Notes:

    • This option applies to tax years 2015 and higher.
    • Selecting this option may cause a longer time to process large returns.
    • K-1 packages, if present in the return, are organized in a separate bookmark, regardless if you select this option.
    Print only open diagnostics

    Select to include only open diagnostics in Diagnostics pages of the Accountant copy. This option excludes diagnostics that are signed off, allowing you to focus on diagnostics that may require further input.

    Note: Diagnostics do not print if they are suppressed in Return Configuration Sets > Print Options or in the return Print Options.

  7. For tax years 2015 and higher, select the copy types you want to include electronic filing PDF attachments. To include PDF attachments in the government copy, you must select the Print entire government copy option on the Print Entire Return window in the tax return.

    8. Tips:

    • For tax years 2015 and higher, a cover sheet is included for PDF attachments if the Suppress cover sheets option is set to N in the Return Options worksheet. However, this option affects all cover sheets. You can select to include or suppress specific cover sheets in the return print set.
    • You can also set a default print position for PDF attachment in the return print set.
  8. Click Save to save your changes and continue working in the return configuration set, or click Save & Close to save your changes and close the return configuration set.
