Configuring Return Configuration Set Return Print Options

Return configuration sets allow you to save default options to use when processing and printing returns. Unless otherwise noted in the following procedure, you can override return configuration set print options on the General > Return Options > Processing Options worksheet.

Important: For printed returns that will be filed, be sure the font style you choose is acceptable to the taxing authority where the return is filed.

To set return print options, do the following:

  1. Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, and then click Configuration > Return configuration sets under Tax.
  2. Double-click a return configuration set on the navigation panel.
  3. Click Print Options on the navigation panel.
  4. Select the Closedformat options to use.
  5. Select the Closedprint options.
  6. Select options to mask confidential field input when you print Accountant, Client, and K-1 copy types (Entire Return) and K-1 Packages. You can select to mask the entirety of the following or all but the last four digits of each one:
    • Social Security
    • Employer Identification
    • Bank account
    • Passthrough entity Employer Identification numbers in K-1 copies (available only for tax year 2016 and later returns)

Note: To mask the EIN numbers in K-1 copies, you must select the check boxes for both the Employer identification numbers and the Passthrough entity EIN in K-1 copy options. If you only select the Passthrough entity EIN in K-1 copy option, the numbers will not be masked in the K-1 copies.

Numbers are converted to asterisks when selecting this option or the Mask option when printing or previewing returns.

  7. Note: Showing the last four digits helps to distinguish between numbers or help clients identify their numbers in an Organizer.

    • Masking is available for tax years 2012 and higher.
  8. Select the barcode identifiers to print on mailing sheets for bulk mail. The system combines the identifiers with a serial number that is produced by Tax and a routing code that consists of your firm's Zip code. ClosedExplain the barcode identifiers.
  9. Note: The system does not validate the accuracy of entered identifiers.

    • Mail barcode information can be entered beginning with the 2011 tax year.
  10. Click Save to save your changes and continue working in the return configuration set, or click Save & Close to save your changes and close the return configuration set.
