Assigning Firm Roles to a Project

You can use roles to assign people to a project. Some examples of the use of roles are to assign managerial responsibility, make assignments to worksteps, and send notifications.

When you are adding a new role, the role will immediately be available on worksteps, bill rates, notifications, and roll forward rules.

Note: Roles that are set and unable to be changed at the template and working levels are indicated by a icon in the lock column of the grid. Roles with security rights defined at the firm level are indicated by a icon.

To assign roles for a project, do the following:

  1. Open the project profile.
  2. Click Roles on the navigation panel.
  3. Do one of the following:

    • Add a role assignment. Click Firm Roles on the button bar, or right-click and select Firm Roles from the menu to display a list of previously created roles. SeeSelecting Roles for a Project for more information.
    • Add an assignee to an existing role. Select a role in the grid and click Add Assignee. An additional assignment row is added for the role.
    • Remove a row in the grid. Select a role or assignee in the grid and click Remove on the button bar, or right-click and select Remove from the menu. Roles cannot be removed if they have been locked at the project template. If your selected row is a role, the role and all its assignees are removed. If your selected row is an assignee, only the assignee is removed.

Note: If you're removing an assignee and a workstep assignment was assigned to the staff being removed, and there was one other assignee for the role, the workstep assignment is set to the remaining assignee.

Note: If you add a role assignee and any workstep assignee is not updated, a message will display reminding you to review workstep assignments.
