CCH® ProSystem fx® Data Migration

Selecting Sub-ID Options

What are Sub-IDs?

Some firms group their clients by giving them similar client IDs. In the new ProSystem fx Suite, this is formalized by offering a sub-ID field.

Example: If you work with the Smith family, you can assign them all the same client ID, then give family members their own sub-IDs.

The sub-ID field is available only if the option is set in Firm Setup.

If your firm has been using sub-IDs in the existing foundation suite, select Yes; otherwise, select No.

Sub-IDs in Data Migration

If you have been using sub-IDs, the Data Migration utility will separate your sub-IDs and migrate them if they follow one of two patterns. Set the appropriate flags if your sub-IDs follow one of these patterns:

  • The sub-ID consists of a known number of characters (up to 5) at the end of the client ID.
  • The sub-ID consists of characters following a delimiter, or signal, character in the client ID. Up to five characters will be migrated.

Example: Your firm does accounting for the Smith family, and the client IDs in the current records are sm10.Jackie, sm10.Tom, sm10.Anne, and sm10.Will. By naming the period (.) as the delimiter, you tell the system to give them all a client ID of sm10, and sub-IDs of Jackie, Tom, Anne, and Will, respectively.
