Installing CCH ProSystem fx Products

There are two types of installs available: the server and the client. The server software is installed by an administrator at the central and remote offices. The client software is installed on staff machines.

Note: Remote offices can optionally have their own server installations, but a server installation is not required.

The Install window of Install and Update Manager displays products in the grid based on the account number provided, and allows you to do any of the following:

  • Install licensed products, based on the account number provided
  • Download licensed products for a later installation
  • Uninstall server products
  • Repair installed client products
  • Review previously downloaded products

Notes:

  • Administrator access is required to install, repair, and uninstall products. If the credentials you entered to open Install and Update Manager do not have administrator access, the system prompts you to enter an administrator user ID and password.
  • If you are working in a proxy environment and you do not have Microsoft .NET 4.0 installed on your computer, add the .NET 4.0 download site (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=17851) as a trusted site before installing any products.

To use the install features, do the following:

  1. Choose Server or Client install by doing one of the following:
    1. Click Install > Server on the navigation panel.
    2. Click Install > Client on the navigation panel.

    The products displayed in the grid are based on the account number provided.

    Notes:

    • The Server must be installed prior to installing the Client.
    • The server version of Reports Manager is only supported on a SQL 2008 database. You must also have SQL Server Reporting Service 2008 installed on the server.
  2. Choose one of the following:
    • To install available products, select one or more products in the grid with a status of Not Installed and click Install. The product download progress displays and the installation wizard opens automatically when the product download is complete.
    • To download products for later installation, select the products in the grid and click Download. See Downloading CCH ProSystem fx Products for more information.
    • To uninstall previously installed products, close all CCH ProSystem fx applications, select one or more products in the grid with the status of Installed, and then click Uninstall. For a server installation, Uninstall will remove only the server component and will not remove the database or third-party components.
    • To repair previously installed products, close all CCH ProSystem fx applications, select one or more products in the grid with a status of Installed, and then click Repair to restore the product files to their original state.
    • To view previously downloaded products, click View past downloads. See Reviewing CCH ProSystem fx Product Downloads for more information.
    • To refresh the grid with the current status of your licensed products, click the Refresh icon.
    • To sort selected columns in either ascending or descending order, click the Product or Current State column header.
  3. Click Close to exit Install and Update Manager.
  4. Note: Installations that are pending will be canceled if you close the Install and Update Manager window. Installations that are in progress when you close Install and Update Manager will complete.
